Balloons Over Bend is a Fabulous Bend Oregon Festival

Balloons Over Bend

There are few more stunning sights than watching beautiful hot air balloons floating into the sky with the backdrop of the Central Oregon Cascades at sunrise. Starting this Friday, the annual Balloons Over Bend festival will run through Sunday offering exciting sunrise launches of the balloons, the Night Glow event Friday evening many fun activities for the whole family on Saturday. The schedule includes the following:

Friday July 27, 2018

  • Balloon Launch at Sunrise at RE Jewell Elementary School
  • Night Glow begins at 5pm at Riverbend Park

High Desert Classics Start Today

Oregon HIgh Desert ClassicsThe Oregon High Desert Classics, the major fundraiser for J Bar J Boys Ranch, starts today and runs for the next two weeks. The event brings in over 600 horses and 3000 professionals and amateur competitors from all over North America. The show provides for premier hunter/jumper competitions and includes two $25,000 Grand Prix's, National and International US HJA Hunter Derbies and other fun events.

The Classics are held on the 40 acre J Bar J Ranch and offers vistas of the snow capped Cascades and six grass rings, four schooling rings, onsite barns, specials events and vendors. There is no cost for attendees to watch the events.

Bend's Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration Tomorrow

Bend Oregon 4th of JulySince the 1930's, celebration of the 4th of July has been a big deal in Bend. Starting early with the annual Lion's Club pancake breakfast followed by the "not to be missed" Bend Park & Recreation Pet Parade which over the years has including everything from ponies and llamas to dogs elevated by helium balloons, to stuffed animals pulled in wagons, the event draws thousands of people from all over Central Oregon. Following the pet parade, Park and Rec sponsors the Old Fashioned 4th of July in Drake Park. The event, which runs from 11 am to 4 pm, includes live music, local artisans and lots of food and family friendly activities such as 3-legged races, gunny sack races, parachute play, water balloon toss, watermelon eating contests and more.
